💡 Tips for depositors: Profit and Prudence
Risk-Return Relationship
According to fundamental banking principles, an interest rate significantly higher than the market average may reflect a higher risk profile of the respective institution. A bank offers attractive rates when it wants to attract liquidity quickly.
Diversification Strategy
Financial prudence recommends avoiding the concentration of all savings in a single institution. Diversifying your deposits protects your liquidity: in case one bank faces difficulties, you retain access to the rest of your money deposited in other institutions.
Interest Rate Information
The table above is designed to allow you a quick scan of interest rates based on the chosen currency (RON, EUR, or USD) and the maturity of the deposit. You can use the sorting function for each period column (from 1 month to 12 months) to instantly identify which institution offers the highest interest rate for your time horizon. Whether you seek short-term liquidity or maximum long-term yield, this tool provides you with the necessary data to make an objective comparison between various bank products.
Enable the "Net" interest display to see the real return on deposits, calculated after the automatic tax withholding (net interest = gross interest × 0.90). Gross interest is the yield offered by the bank before taxes. To get the net interest (the money you actually keep), the 10% income tax is deducted. According to Romanian tax legislation, interest income is taxed at 10%, an amount withheld at the source by the bank at the time of payment.
Data is centralized for informational purposes. Interest rate values are subject to change without notice and may depend on additional criteria of each bank (such as salary receipt or opening new accounts). We recommend confirming the updated terms directly with the selected bank.
Deposit Guarantee
Safety of your savings: All deposits presented in this comparator are constituted at banking institutions in Romania, members of the Bank Deposit Guarantee Fund (FGDB). By law, your savings are protected up to 100,000 EUR (LEI equivalent) per depositor, per bank. This guarantee covers both the deposited amount (capital) and the accumulated interest until the deposit becomes unavailable, ensuring your financial peace of mind regardless of the chosen bank's size.
Note on the Guarantee: Deposits are guaranteed up to 100,000 EUR per depositor. For Romanian banks, the guarantee is provided by the FGDB. For branches of banks from other EU states present in Romania (list), the guarantee is provided by the scheme in the country of origin. How does it work? In case of necessity, the FGDB collaborates with EU schemes and can make payments to depositors in Romania on their behalf (according to the EFDI Agreement), after receiving the necessary funding and instructions from the home scheme. The payment is made in the currency provided by the respective member state.
